Practice Lecture Series: Claudia Sohrens

Claudia Sohrens’ is a multidisciplinary artist, originally from Germany, based in Brooklyn. She received her MA in Media & Communication from the European Graduate School (EGS) in Switzerland, where she is a PhD candidate.

Sohrens practice is rooted in a discourse on photography and photographic representation. Her work unfolds in a range of media - photography, collage, printmaking, books, video, and installation, and has been presented in numerous group and solo exhibitions nationally and internationally.
Fellowships awarded to her include the NYSCA grant, SVA RisoLAB Residency, VSC Residency, the Inaugural ICP Artist Residency, A.I.R. Fellowship, the NYFA Fellowship for Photography, and AIM23 at the Bronx Museum.

Sohrens has been a professor at Pratt, Tisch/NYU, and Parsons School of Design at The New School, and has been invited to critique student work and speak as a visiting artist at other graduate and undergraduate programs including Barnard, Cooper Union and ACT/MIT. She served as a mentor for NYFA's Immigrant Artist Program, and as a juror on visual art panels for BAC, VSC, and NYFA.
